At the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), our mission is to use rigorous research, training, and engagement with decisionmakers to improve policies and practices in ways that help reduce conflict and improve global cooperation. This annual report offers an overview of our history, leadership, programs, and more.
DownloadIGCC had a productive 2012, hosting over 30 conferences and workshops, two summer training programs, and a full schedule of lectures and briefings. IGCC initiated new partnerships with the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management and the U.S. Naval War College, with whom IGCC held joint workshops bringing together Chinese and Western experts to explore the political, economic, and strategic dimensions of cybersecurity. Key findings were published in a report titled “China and Cybersecurity.” This year, IGCC also selected its first Nuclear Science and Security Consortium fellows as part of a $25 million multi-campus initiative to train students in nuclear-related fields.
IGCC’s Development and Conflict Research group explored tech-based approaches to fighting corruption, including using mobile phones to monitor elections and government programs. A June workshop, sponsored by the Department of Defense, brought together international experts to evaluate such innovations.
