Rudra Guha Biswas

Rudra M. Guha Biswas is a PhD Candidate in political science at the University of California, Riverside. His research examines how geoeconomic competition between the great powers alters the behavior of multinational corporations and states caught in between the competing powers. His dissertation introduces the concept of geoeconomic risk (GER) and draws on quantitative causal inference, text-as-data methods, and qualitative process tracing to demonstrate that this risk produces responses from states and multinational firms that are distinct from those predicted by existing measures of political and economic risk. His broader research agenda examines the political economy of trade, development, and aid under great power competition, as well as the political economy of financial and FinTech regulations.  He served on the organizing committee of the Graduate Students in International Political Economy (GSIPE) Workshop during the 2025–26 academic year, an interdisciplinary, peer-run international forum connecting IPE scholars across political science and economics. Before joining UC Riverside, he held policy and regulatory roles at India’s Ministry of Finance and the Bombay Stock Exchange, and holds an MPA in international finance and economic policy from Columbia University’s (SIPA) and a BS in electrical engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
