Jungjae Hong

Jungjae Hong is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research focuses on international security, with an emphasis on nuclear weapons, alliance politics, and multilateral institutions. He examines when and how nuclear capabilities and alliance relationships produce their intended strategic effects, and the domestic and institutional conditions that shape their strategic effects. He employs a range of methods, including large-N quantitative analysis, case studies, and survey experiments. He has also developed original datasets in collaboration with other scholars. Before beginning his doctoral studies, he earned an M.A. in International Relations from Seoul National University and a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Pusan National University. During his master’s studies, he held a research fellowship at the Nuclear Nonproliferation Education and Research Center at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology.
