Heather Prentice-Walz is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology at UC Santa Barbara. Her dissertation is a mixed methods ethnographic study that focuses on food security, human security, global health, and non-traditional and emerging threats in rural southwestern Haiti. The research explores the ways that local communities understand and interact with international aid organizations in the context of ongoing disasters, with a special emphasis on the food and agriculture sector.
