IGCC is delighted to share that our Talking Policy podcast miniseries, Democracy and Its Discontents, has won Gold at the 2025 Davey Awards in the category for Podcast Series, Government & Political.

“We were motivated to create this series in the run-up to the 2024 presidential election to help educate voters about what is at stake in American democracy, and to put the challenges we face here in the U.S. in broader global context,” said IGCC associate director Lindsay Shingler, who hosted the series. “We are thrilled that the series got traction, and hope it continues to educate and inform listeners.”

The five-part series examines the challenges faced by American democracy at a time of sky-high political polarization, rock-bottom institutional trust, and far-reaching changes to the U.S. economy, media environment, and society. Shingler spoke to academics from UC Irvine, Los Angeles, and San Diego about the impact of division, disinformation, and disillusionment on U.S. democracy and what can be done to fix it.

The Davey Awards is a leading global creative prize that honors excellence from small and independent creators. Taking its name from David, who defeated Goliath, the Davey awards recognize “big ideas that come to life without big budgets.”

IGCC thanks Talking Policy host and creator, Lindsay Shingler; CitizenRacecar, IGCC’s partner for the democracy miniseries; and its in-house podcast producer, Tyler Ellison, for continuing to bring fresh content to listeners every month.
