Ben Oppenheim
2012-2013 Dissertation Fellow
Ben Oppenheim, PhD, was an IGCC Dissertation Fellow from 2012-2013. He is senior director at Ginkgo Bioworks, where he works in the biosecurity and public health unit. Oppenheim’s research interests include infectious disease risk, armed conflict, governance, rumors and misinformation, and development assistance. His work has been published in the Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of Development Studies, and the Journal of Conflict Resolution, among others. His dissertation research identifies whether and how institutional weakness and collapse drive nonconventional security threats.
