Mariana Carvalho Barbosa

2020-2021 Dissertation Fellow

Mariana Carvalho Barbosa was an IGCC Dissertation Fellow from 2020-2021. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Brown University. She received her Ph.D. in political science from UC San Diego in 2022.  Her research interests span political economy and comparative politics, with a focus on violence, crime, and corruption. Her dissertation investigates the causes and consequences of assassinations of local politicians, with a central focus on Brazil. This project contributes to our understanding of criminal politics and political violence by emphasizing the relationship between corruption and violence against politicians.
