Nate Monroe

Professor of Political Science and Tony Coelho Endowed Chair of Public Policy at the University of California, Merced

Nathan W. Monroe is a professor of political science and Tony Coelho Endowed Chair of Public Policy at UC Merced. In 2021, he helped establish and became the founding director of the Center for Analytic Political Engagement (CAPE). Much of his teaching and research focuses on the legislative process—especially agenda setting—at the state, federal, and international levels. His research has appeared in the leading journals and book presses in political science, as well as a number of interdisciplinary journals. Some of his most recent work focuses on the legislative process of international organizations—especially the United National General Assembly—where he and co-authors consider the measurement of state preferences using more contentions committee amendment votes. He is regularly quoted by state, local, and national media sources for his expertise on various legislative topics.
