Weiyi Shi
2013-2014 IGCC Dissertation Fellow
Weiyi Shi was an IGCC Dissertation Fellow from 2013-2014. She is an assistant professor of political science at the School of Global Policy & Strategy at UC San Diego. Her research focuses on the political economy of China’s outward direct investment. Particularly, she investigates how the delegation of state objectives to firms influences the behavior of Chinese investors and China’s foreign policy. Her dissertation theorizes that in an autocratic system like China’s politically connected companies can count on the ruling elites to bail them out of losses overseas, passing the costs on to the public.
