China’s Industrial Policy: Sectors and Resources

September 30, 2022 to October 2, 2022

IGCC

Over the past decade, China has steadily raised the intensity of its planning and industrial policy interventions. Some of China’s policies have existed long enough for us to begin to assess their impacts: How coherent is the Chinese approach? Do the resource flows roughly meet the planners’ expectations? Can we make preliminary judgments about the efficacy of these policies?

In this closed academic workshop, IGCC will convene a group of leading scholars and veteran China watchers to examine Chinese industrial policies in the sectors in which China hopes to make the biggest technological leaps. Esteemed participants from leading universities, think tanks, and industry, along with representatives from the U.S. Treasury and Department of State, will share their latest research and observations along China’s industrial policy life cycle, from formulation to implementation.
