West Coast Launch of the Global Value Chain Development Report 2021: Beyond Production

A radical shift is underway in global value chains (GVCs) as they increasingly move beyond traditional manufacturing processes to services and other intangible assets, aided by digitization. The Global Value Chain Development Report 2021, the third of a biennial series by leading economic institutions, explores this shift Beyond Production.

Join us on Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. PDT for the virtual U.S. West Coast launch event (Zoom link here) where panelists and discussants will share recent trends in GVCs, including intellectual property protection, productivity growth and innovation, and the role of digital platforms. They will also consider how protectionism and geopolitical tensions, environmental risks, and the COVID-19 pandemic could undermine the stability of global value chains and lead to their geographic reorganization.

The event is hosted jointly by the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy and Strategy and its Center for Commerce and Diplomacy, and UC Irvine.
