Paddy Ryan

Paddy Ryan is a senior writer and editor with the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC). Paddy works with IGCC researchers to amplify the impact of the University of California in the policy community. He is based out of the IGCC’s office in Washington, DC. Prior to joining IGCC, Paddy was the assistant director for European energy security at the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center. In addition to his work on European energy and climate policy, Paddy wrote on the geopolitics of clean energy supply chains and edited the center’s blog, EnergySource. Previous to this, he wrote for the British news magazine The Spectator, served as Europe editor for FedNet, a Capitol Hill-based press agency, and worked as an editor for Global Risk Insights, a London-based political risk publication. Paddy’s writing has also appeared in Defense News, EnergyPost, The Hill, and Eurasianet, and he has been quoted in Quartz, Semafor, Axios, The Diplomat, ArsTechnica, and Fox News, among others. Paddy earned a master’s degree in international relations from the London School of Economics, and a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a triple national of Ireland, Mexico, and the United States.
