China Innovation and Industrial Policy

Chinese industrial policy is increasingly focused on sectors that support new, networked forms of production, transportation, and communication. Technological advance has been rapid in a range of related areas, including semiconductors, robotics, sensors, and artificial intelligence. At the same time, China has continued to push hard in other sectors only indirectly related to the “fourth industrial revolution,” including locomotives, environmental equipment, and wind power.

IGCC’s research program synthesizes new and existing information on China’s science, technology, innovation, and industrial policy (STIIP) initiatives, policies, players, and programs, and provides an integrated and coherent view of China’s innovation and industrial policy efforts as a whole.
