The Weaponization of Information Technologies and Democratic Resilience
Austin Beacham, Emilie M. Hafner-Burton, et al
Continuity and change have characterized much of democracy’s turbulent history. The Future of Democracy Initiative brings together experts from across the University of California to explore patterns of democratic continuity, crisis, adaptation, and resilience. Our work focuses on how the spread of open information technology, economic globalization, and rising authoritarian powers are driving democratic backsliding in some cases, and democratic resilience in others. By bringing together multiple disciplines and perspectives, IGCC experts provide independent analysis to better understand urgent threats to democracy and democratic representation at all levels of governance, while suggesting practical solutions.
